Embedded in Insight’s Business & Legal Affairs department, the BA Trainee will work in a fast-paced environment on a variety of shows across multiple genres. The focus is on in-depth, hands-on training in all aspects of the business side of television, leading up to, on and following “The Legacy Awards.” This is a hybrid position requiring some days at the Insight office for meetings.

The BA Trainee will gain experience in all aspects of producing a show from start to finish, as various projects move through the pipeline from development to production, post, delivery, marketing and promotion.  As a member of the team, the BA Trainee will learn how to communicate with colleagues handling separate aspects of Business Affairs but collectively working together. The BA Trainee will work on resource sharing, problem-solving and witness decision making from the COO, SVP of Legal Affairs, Manager of Legal Operations, Director of Business Affairs, Coordinators and more.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Preparing digital documents and administering production-related contracts including talent agreements, deal memos, releases, etc.
  • Drafting funding, tax credit and Canadian content applications (CAVCO, Ontario Creates, CRTC, CMF, etc.)
  • Preparing ACTRA/WGC/DGC contracts and related paperwork as required
  • Assisting in the submission of insurance applications and the distribution of production insurance certificates
  • Assisting with interim financing paperwork, as required
  • Performing administrative duties such as electronic filing and record keeping
  • Attending meetings with production teams
  • Communicating with other departments (e.g. accounting) to ensure proper processing of documentation

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES:

  • Program is designed for Canadian citizens or permanent residents who identify as Black
  • Participant needs to be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Participant needs to reside in Ontario
  • Self-starter with the ability to follow through until successful completion of assigned duties
  • Interest in producing and the business of film and television 
  • Ability to function effectively in an atmosphere subject to frequent changes and produce results
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Google Drive, Dropbox

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma
