Fatuma Adar is a Somali-Canadian writer based in Toronto. She was long-listed for the CBC’s Creative Nonfiction Prize and profiled in Up Close: Young Black Women Making Canada Better. In 2017, she joined the third cohort of the Bars Workshop at the Public Theater in New York City. Her work has been featured in the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Maclean’s, and Black Writers Matter, an anthology published by the University of Regina Press. She is developing a new musical called Dixon Road with support from the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, the Obsidian Theatre, and the Musical Stage Company. Fatuma is also creating a one-woman musical comedy show in which she melodically explores the pressures of being a “model minority.”

A production professional, Dinu Cebzan is detail-oriented and hardworking, and an extremely quick learner. Sociable and approachable, he enjoys being around people and solving problems. Dinu loves maximizing his skills and talents to advance technologies used in content production. Having been exposed to it since childhood, television and film production brings joy to Dinu’s life. There is nothing better for him than being part of a production team and witnessing a project evolve from idea to reality, not to mention experiencing the adrenaline rush of live production. Dinu has a passion for technology, constantly pushing its limits, learning, and discovering better ways to achieve production goals.

Kuda Charamba is a freelance video editor with more than five years of experience in the post production industry. Mainly working in the non-scripted world, his consistency as an assistant editor has proven him to be reliable in the industry. Kuda holds an advanced diploma in television broadcasting from Niagara Community College.

For more than 20 years, Kathryn Dickson has proven herself to be an industrious, creative storyteller, who has the versatility to jump from factual programming to
reality, to experiential reality-docs and even old school documentary.

Kathryn’s awards and accolades include Winner of a 2014 RTDNA award for diversity, three Gemini Award nominations, a Canadian Screen Award for Best News Magazine Segment, a New York Film Festival Award and two Canadian Cinema Editor Awards for best editing in a documentary.

Her work has been broadcast on major networks including HGTV, DIY, CBC, OLN, History, Slice, W Network and Global.

Kathryn is a proud co-founder of the Toronto Bloggers Collective and a member of the Travel Media Association of Canada.

Mazin Elsadig is a multi-hyphenate artist stemming from the world of acting appearing in such series as The Beaverton (CTV),Four In The Morning(CBC) and Degrassi: The Next Generation (CTV). He started BAMN Productions where he wrote and produced several projects including three of Drake’s music videos and the six-part YouTube comedy series We Are Disorderly where he was creator, executive producer, writer and lead. He recently graduated from the Canadian Film Centre and was in the room on the second season of Pretty Hard Cases (CBC/Cameron Pictures).

At Insight Productions, Shannon combines creativity with keen business acumen and works across both scripted and unscripted productions. She is the driving force behind the creation, development, financing, and production of a slate of original projects for the US, Canadian, and international markets. On The Legacy Awards, she serves as an executive producer and oversees the Skills Development Program in addition to mentoring Yemie Sonuga. In 2015, she launched the company’s Los Angeles office. She currently divides her time between the US and Canada and helps plan, strategize, and implement overall US creative and business development. For ABC Family and Global Television, she co-created and produced the primetime drama series Falcon Beach, which has been sold to more than 115 territories. Other credits include CTV’s comedy special A Russell Peters’ Christmas; Sabbatical for CTV; The Jon Dore Television Show for the Comedy Network and IFC; Bell Media’s first digital original, Joke or Choke; But I’m Chris Jericho! for CBC; LOL: Laugh Out Loud Canada for Amazon; and The Legacy Awards for CBC.

Jemeni is a broadcaster, writer, activist, singer, actor, and community worker with more than 20 years of broadcast experience. She was born in Grenada and worked at gr s radio station CKLN. She has also served as a music critic on MuchMusic.

Jemeni has won the Caribbean Women of Excellence Award, the Warning Award, the Tara Award, and the Canadian Urban Music award. She defended Nalo Hopkinson’s novel Brown Girl in the Ring for the prestigious CBC Canada Reads book competition in February 2008. In 2022, she and Mark Strong joined Toronto radio station CFPT-FM as cohosts of the morning show. Jemeni is also a host of CBC Music’s national R&B-focused radio series Marvin’s Room.

Tracy brings over 30 years of experience as a Producer/ Line Producer in the field of live and taped television specials and series. Her professional interests include reality, factual, music, award shows, event specials and variety productions. Tracy has refined her knowledge in performer, musician and technical unions, technical suppliers, crew and production staff, budgeting, cost reporting, accounting, and payroll. Tracy has been an integral part of Insight productions such as The JUNO Awards, Canada’s New Year’s Eve, Buffy Sainte-Marie Starwalker, The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Battle of the Blades, and The Tragically Hip; A National Celebration.

Sue Hincenbergs started her television career at CBC and has since been at other major networks in roles ranging from associate director, writer, and assignment editor to producer and production manager. She has worked on programming ranging from live sports and sitcoms to lifestyle and breaking news. She has been in a control room for every hour on the clock – from early morning royal weddings to quadruple overtime sports. She’s cued the Queen and spent a lot of time waiting to see chimney smoke from the Vatican announcing the death of a Pope. Most recently, Sue has been working at Insight Productions with their team focused on producing quality live specials.

As Director of Business Affairs at Insight Productions, Brett Hogg oversees day-to-day business affairs operations for each of Insight’s projects from development to production and final delivery stages, including tax credits, insurance, guild obligations and interim financing.

Brett holds a Bachelor of Arts in law with a concentration in business law from Carleton University.

Prior to joining Insight in 2011, he gained experience in the insurance industry before taking an internship in music publishing to learn more about the business.
Brett strives to work closely with producers and stakeholders at every level with a core philosophy of using his skills and experience to achieve the creative vision of Insight and its many partners.

Phil Hornung’s experience in live audio is wide-ranging, including theatrical, corporate, concert touring, and broadcast events. He has worked extensively as a PA system engineer and designer, a front-of-house engineer with many touring credits, has a background in wireless and intercoms, and expertise in digital and networked audio. Early in his career, he was primarily focused on working in live theatre, including years of touring a wide variety of theatre shows. Later, he spent about eight years mixing front of house for concert tours, furthering his education on system design and PA systems between tours. During that time, he was out on tours mixing front of house for many Canadian artists, among many others Kathleen Edwards, Lights, Mother Mother, and the Sam Roberts Band. He has also toured with Bryan Adams, Mumford & Sons, Snoop Dogg, and many other artists as a PA system engineer and crew chief. Phil has been at Solotech for eight years in the role of Technical Advisor, Audio in the Live Productions division. His role is global for the company. He is a certified instructor for L-Acoustics speaker systems, and one of his key mandates in his role is around technical education of all kinds for Solotech staff. Education has become a real passion and he plans to be increasingly involved in teaching courses in the future at all levels and in various kinds of technology.

Zannub Houssein is a costume/production designer and has worked in the fashion industry for more than 15 years. Over the past eight years, she’s worked heavily in music and film work and loves to contribute to storytelling by seamlessly intertwining production design and costume. Zannub has worked across a variety of formats from music videos, award shows, and performances, to feature films, commercials, and more.

She has also worked in the fashion retail space for 15 years and has worked with world-renowned fashion houses including Louis Vuitton and celebrities such as Wondagurl, Drake, Future, DJ Khalid, and many more. Her mission is to create a fashion community in Toronto that showcases the city to the world.

Shawn Hughes is a Technical Producer with a wide range of experience in the audio and visual elements of production. Shawn graduated from the Broadcast Engineering Program at Radio College of Canada and the Broadcast Media Studies program at Loyalist College.

Shawn’s credits include a variety of unscripted productions from live award shows such as The Juno Awards and Canadian Country Music Association Awards, to celebrations like Canada’s New Year’s Eve and Concert for Diana, and competitions such as Big Brother Canada and LOL Canada.

Orin Isaacs is a 30-year veteran of the Canadian music scene. He has produced JUNO award-winning, gold & platinum selling albums, and has been an in demand TV/Film Musical Director and composer for the last 20 years. Currently he’s the composer for two of the biggest shows on Canadian TV – The Amazing Race Canada and Big Brother Canada. He has also been the composer/musical director for Last One Laughing Canada, Canada’s Got Talent, Canada’s Ultimate Challenge, The JUNO Awards, Battle of the Generations, I Have Nothing, The Canadian Screen Awards, The Legacy Awards, The Launch, Battle of the Blades, Canada’s Walk Of Fame, Intervention Canada, Stronger Together, I Do Redo, Undercover Boss Canada, Chopped Canada, Top Chef Canada, Wall of Chefs, Wall of Bakers, Ice Road Truckers, Storage Wars, 2002/2006 Olympic Winter Games, 2015 PanAm Games, and 2018 Warrior Games. His film and TV movie work includes Song & Story: Amazing Grace (Harpo/OWN); Breaking Brooklyn (Lionsgate), Mr. Jane & Finch (CBC), Cool Black North (Rogers), Shinny (NFB), and Flemingdon Park (NFB).

Sarah emigrated to Canada with her family from London, UK when she was 11. She has risen through the ranks of the production department from PA to Supervising Producer and spent eight years in Los Angeles. She likes to think of herself as a production fixer – sort of like Mary Poppins without the umbrella. It’s her mission to deliver every production on time, and under budget, with no tears. She is committed to creating compassionate, collaborative, inclusive and diverse production crews; in safe, respectful, and FUN working environments. Sarah’s credits include: The Amazing Race Canada: season 1 to present season 11; Truth or Dare on the Road and in Bed with Madonna; Beverly Hills 90210 (the original); Wall of Chefs, and Intervention Canada.

Glace Lawrence has merged her award-winning TV production experience with her passion and empathy for creating great content. As a line producer, her TV projects include two seasons of the multiple-award winning doc-lifestyle series The Stagers for HGTV US and HGTV Canada; two seasons of Consumed for HGTV Canada; the live-to-tape specials The Women Tell All and After the Final Rose for The Bachelor Canada for Rogers, and the inaugural Legacy Awards for CBC. Glace’s independent documentary and drama projects Coming to Voice, Hotel Babylon: Heroes & Hustlers, directed by Charles Officer, and D-E-S-I-R-E aired on Vision TV, Bravo!, and the W Network. Glace is also a co-founder of Possible Futures Studio Inc., which completed concept development on a narrative VR prototype, Ghosts of Remembrance (Ontario Creates, CMF), exploring the untold stories of Black slavery in Canada. She is an alum of the Canadian Film Centre, a past Executive Director of the Ontario Black History Society, and a founding member of Toronto’s Black Film & Video Network.

Tanya joined the Insight team in 2005. After graduating from The University of London in England it is Insight that gave Tanya her master’s degree in all things TV. With her experience as an actor at The Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Tanya was able to find a home for both her creative intuition and hone her skills at the business of production. Starting as an Office Coordinator Tanya had the opportunity to learn from the range of specialties required to produce successful content; whether in office, on set, in the editing room or supporting in Business Affairs she quickly found her passion lay in Development. As the Vice President of Development, Tanya is responsible for managing all development at Insight from scripted, unscripted, comedy and variety.

Muzafar Malik has more than 20 years of experience in production and expertise in producing and directing content and events, in addition to cinematography and editing. Muzafar has the production contacts to provide full on-set capabilities or post-production services. He is a proven team leader and has successfully delivered many different types of projects and worked with a variety of stakeholders from large global enterprises to small mid-market start-ups. His clients and projects have included EY Entrepreneur of The Year Awards (Canada and the US), Canadian Marketing Association, the Toronto Stock Exchange, National Magazine Awards, SOCAN Awards, and the Canadian General Council Awards. He is also the Co-Founder of Split the Difference Productions and have produced the award-winning feature film, Webdultery, currently available on VOD in Canada, US, and internationally.

Rose Marra knew at a very young age that she wanted to work in television production. She graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Radio and Television Arts Program in 1993. She began as a Production Assistant on Breakfast Television and then moved into Production Coordinating for Fashion Television for 5 years. This allowed Rose to learn the fundamentals of television production, which paved the way to her current role of Supervising Producer / Senior Line Producer. Rose has gained extensive experience in live award shows, live reality competition, unscripted series, and comedy programming. Production credits include The JUNO Awards, Canada’s Walk of Fame, Project Runway Canada, Battle of the Blades, The Launch seasons 1 and 2, The Canadian Screen Awards, Stronger Together, Canada’s New Year’s Eve Countdown, LOL: Last One Laughing Canada and The 2022 Legacy Awards.

Doug was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario. He opened Comfort Sound Studio in Toronto, which became known for recording bands on location, especially live radio broadcasts. He later decided to go into location multi-track recording full time, as LiveWireRemote Recorders. Doug has engineered more than 4,000 music remotes and has been nominated for 15 Geminis/CSAs and has won five times. He has recorded dozens of international artists, including U2, AC/DC, Céline Dion, Oscar Peterson, Ozzy Osbourne, Stevie Ray Vaughan, 50 Cent, The Rolling Stones, Melissa Etheridge, and Joni Mitchell. Doug has provided the music mix for The JUNO Awardsand the MMVAs; worked on the audio team for Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS) at the past five Olympic Games; and has recorded concerts in all ten Canadian provinces, Germany, Spain, Nigeria, Israel, Cyprus, Jamaica, Kuwait, and the United States. Doug was the Charter President of the Toronto Recording Association of Commercial Studios (TRACS) and is the Chairman of the Producing and Engineering program at the Harris Institute.

Erica McMaster is a seasoned freelance professional with more than 25 years of experience in hospitality and television production, spanning roles from bar management to event coordination. In 2017, she returned to TV after a 10-year hiatus and has since been fortunate to work on several award-winning live productions with various production companies as an associate producer and production coordinator. Her role involves handling logistics and adapting to diverse tasks efficiently. She excels in organizing and thrives in high stress, fast-paced environments, thanks to her background in hospitality. She cherishes the relationships she has built with countless crew members and takes pride in her continuing learning journey. Beyond logistics, she relishes the process of bringing productions to life and loves the (literal) heavy lifting that’s involved.

David F. Mewa is a lifestyle television showrunner and director with credits that span a decade. He has produced and directed projects across several genres of unscripted TV. David has worked with international broadcasters and streamers including CBC, HBO, HGTV, MTV, Paramount+, and with major brands like L’Oréal Paris and Scion. In 2022, he produced the inaugural Legacy Awards, Canada’s first nationally televised awards show celebrating Black talent. David’s early work as a music video director kick-started a career built on consistent style and swag. His dedication to detail, meticulous preparation and kick-ass visuals has made David the highly sought-after creative he is today.

Before joining the corporate team, at Insight Productions Ltd. in 2018, Alicia worked as a freelancer on a variety of Insight’s top rated reality shows. Most recently she’s become an instrumental part of the Brand Partnerships and Development department working alongside the Executive Producers and production teams on several award-winning branded content integrations on Big Brother Canada, The Amazing Race Canada, Battle of the Blades, Top Chef Canada and The JUNO Awards. Her passion for television extends to so many facets of her work and her meticulous dedication to everything is shown by the countless roles she is able to juggle at any given time – managing relationships with brands, agencies, networks, producers, and clients across the board. Her boundless desire to learn and grow has led her to some of her own initiatives including expanding her job to include Production Management and Producing for digital content such as Youngster, Boat Rocker Digital, and SpeedRun.

Mark Muise is a freelance post-production supervisor, scheduling wizard, and editor mediator based in Toronto. Mark graduated from Canadore College’s Broadcasting Television and Video Production Program in 2003, and has worked on such shows as Annedroids, The Main, Golden Gays, Paranormal Investigators, Canadian Idol, Dark Side of the 90s, Rugged Justice and The Mom Show. Mark has helped to deliver thousands of hours of original and acclaimed Canadian television in his 20 years of working in TV.

Sherali Najak is a live multi-camera director, producer, and executive producer, celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the world of live entertainment and sports broadcasting. With an impressive 25- year tenure at Hockey Night in Canada, Sherali has directed and produced captivating live events, earning worldwide acclaim for producing nearly 20 Stanley Cup finals and directing Wayne Gretzky’s final game. Despite his executive producer role, Sherali is from the trenches and is dedicated to the grind of learning something new on every production. His mastery extends beyond sports, and he has left his directorial imprint on occasions from The Legacy Awards (2022 and 2023) to the Hockey Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony, live New Year’s Eve concerts, Battle of the Blades, and the world feed for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. Sherali’s expertise lies in seamlessly directing multi-camera entertainment specials, infusing unique artistry into each production. Collaborating with producers, technicians, and choreographers, he elevates the visual and narrative impact, ensuring that the nuance of storytelling through imagery is captured in every frame. An advocate for nurturing talent, he believes in empowering others to reach their full strut. Recognized with multiple Gemini and Canadian Screen Awards, Sherali’s ability to orchestrate live multi-camera productions has set a standard for industry excellence.

Tara Ocansey is a dynamic wardrobe stylist with more than seven years of experience. With a background in visual merchandising and education in fashion management and fashion/apparel design, she has carved a niche in TV production. Through fruitful collaborations and continuous research, Tara has expanded her client base and deepened her industry knowledge. Notable achievements include styling for Brandon Gonez and various Canadian productions, and assisting in music video styling for Drake and Future alongside key stylist Caitlin Wright. Tara’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Okator Inc., where she introduced the Oveil, a luxury make-up face cover that has gained attention from celebrities and beauty professionals. Tara is committed to mentoring and empowering aspiring stylists in the media industry, cementing her status as a powerhouse in the field.

For Tanisha Scott, what began as a childhood dream of dancing on big stages has evolved into much more. With almost two decades of culture-defining choreography under her belt, Scott has earned a stellar reputation as the “go-to” person for the biggest names and projects in the entertainment industry, working as a choreographer, creative director, and artist-development expert. Since her first choreography credit on Sean Paul’s Gimme the Light in 2002, she has built a thriving career, creating and orchestrating dance and performance movement for Paul, as well as Rihanna, Drake, and Cardi B, to name a few. Often referred by trusted peers and clients, she has also lent her expertise to acts such as Coldplay, Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, the Jonas Brothers, Will Smith, Pharrell, Katy Perry, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Lil Nas X, Jay-Z, J Balvin, Bruno Mars, Wizkid, Dua Lipa, and Jennifer Lopez. Not to be contained, Scott’s movement mastery has expanded beyond the dance industry to the world of film and television, where she has worked with esteemed directors including Spike Jonze, Jodie Foster, Noam Murro, Lance Acord, F. Gary Gray, and Jason Moore. From music videos and live stage performances to movies, TV shows, and commercials, Scott continues to leave an indelible mark on the world as a storyteller and a vessel for artistic expression through movement.

Ryan Shaw is a distinguished director of photography, recognized for his exceptional contributions to the television industry. Renowned for his stellar camera work and creative vision, Ryan has left an indelible mark on the realm of visual storytelling. His impressive portfolio includes groundbreaking projects such as The Amazing Race Canada (2013), where his adept cinematography captured the essence of the thrilling competition, and Fire Masters (2019), where his skillful handling of visuals added depth to the fiery culinary spectacle. With a career defined by a keen eye for detail and an innate understanding of visual narratives, Ryan has solidified his reputation as a sought after talent in the field of cinematography. His noteworthy contributions to the long-running series The Amazing Race (2001) further underscore his prowess in capturing the essence of global adventures through the lens. Ryan’s dedication to his craft continues to captivate audiences, earning him acclaim and admiration within the industry.

Harbinder Singh is a multi-camera television director/producer with more than 20 years of television production experience. He has gained immense knowledge and experience from working on some of Canada’s biggest television shows. Through working on everything from daily live lifestyle shows to Olympic Sports and e-sport television, his vision, passion, and dedication has allowed him to create amazing content. Hard-working, dedicated, and passionate are three words that describe him every day. He is constantly aiming to achieve the most appropriate and most creative approach to create the best possible content. Harbinder delivers the three genres of entertainment, sports, and network news directing in one package. His experience in live music, lifestyle, sports, and news makes him a complete director for any project, and his visual and directing styles bring a cinematic approach to all his projects.

Ian Steaman is a reformed music industry executive-turned-award winning screenwriter who has worked with many chart-topping and critically acclaimed artists—from De La Soul, Queen Latifah, and Naughty by Nature to Kelis, Big Boi of Outkast, and T-Pain—while working at record labels in New York City. In the past year, Ian has completed stints in the writers’ rooms for the marble media-linked shows The Parker Andersons and Amelia Parker as Story Editor, as Junior Story Editor on CBC’s Pretty Hard Cases and as Executive Story Editor on Take Note, a brand-new family half-hour show being produced for NBC’s Peacock TV. Most recently, Ian has developed his own workplace comedy, Deadstock, in conjunction with CBC Television. He is also working on Trap City, an hour-long character drama that began its life while he was a resident at the Canadian Film
Centre in 2019, and Shine, a drama set in the world of the Toronto hip hop industry. A prior participant in the CORUS Writers Apprenticeship program and winner of the 2020 Telefilm New Voices Award at the Toronto Screenwriting Conference, Ian was also selected to be part of the 2021 Netflix-BANFF Diversity of Voices initiative.

In addition to The Legacy Awards, Adrian Sterling is known for his work on many specials and award shows including FreeUp! Emancipation Day (2021), At the Concert Hall, (2008), Comedy Night with Rick Mercer (2022), the MuchMusic Video Awards (MMVAs), the Scotiabank Giller Prize, and the Genie Awards. His tenure at PA Plus/Solotech honed his expertise, paving the path to recent work at GerrAudio, which commenced in December 2021. With more than two decades of unparallelled experience in commercial AV, broadcast, TV, and film production, Adrian possesses an unrivalled mastery of audio and communications technology.

From an early age, Jesse Storey’s passion for meeting new people and hearing their stories was clear. After discovering his grandfather’s VHS camcorder as a toddler, this passion was paired with a keen interest in the film industry, eventually leading him to his role as Senior Producer, where he’s had the privilege of telling some of Canada’s most-loved stories on several award winning productions. From a humble start as a teenager working on the Saskatchewan set of the Canadian comedy Corner Gas, to travelling the world producing both The Amazing Race Canada and The Amazing Race USA, Jesse’s favourite moments have always been centered around connecting with others – something he’s had the opportunity to do thousands of times during his decade of experience casting competition and reality shows. While his work has won both Best Program or Series (in the reality/competition category) and a Golden Screen Award at the Canadian Screen Awards, Jesse considers his biggest accomplishment to be breaking ground as part of the first team ever to be nominated for the Best Achievement Award in Casting for a reality/competition show. Jesse’s natural gift for helping people share their most meaningful stories underscores everything he does, driving him always to look a little farther beyond what first meets the eye.

Mark Vreeken cut his sound engineering teeth in the 1990s as part of The Tragically Hip’s road crew, eventually accompanying the band into the studio for their 1995 release, Day for Night.

Following his stint with the Hip, Mark moved on to work with The Headstones, Leahy, Natalie MacMaster, King Crimson, and the late Leonard Cohen. He then worked his auditory magic as main front of house engineer for Cohen’s live shows, making the most acoustically challenged venues sound better than they should.

Mark was nominated for the 2022 Canadian Screen Award for Best Sound, Non-Fiction for The JUNO Awards.

Lisa Williams is one of the best-known and well-loved stylists working in Canada today. For nearly 20 years, she has worked with a wide array of notable clients and style stars, including Jessi Cruickshank, Arisa Cox, Liz Trinnear, Drake, Walk off the Earth, Sarah McLachlan, Jennifer Nettles, Measha Brueggergosman, Howie Mandel, and Martin Short, to name just a few. Her work has been featured in print and web features, as well as fashionable social media accounts like 365 Days of Style for Lou Lou Magazine. Much of her work has been in television, where her credits include every big name Canadian television show you can think of – Big Brother Canada, The Amazing Race Canada, The JUNO Awards, Canada’s Walk of Fame, Top Chef Canada, Amazon’s LOL Canada, Still Standing, The Launch, and Canada’s Smartest Person, as well as HGTV’s Property Brothers and Home to Win. Lisa’s fashion philosophy always starts with the client and their wants and needs. She knows that clothes are more than just garments or pieces of art; they have the ability to change the way someone feels, and the right pieces can be an immediate confidence builder that translates both on the screen and on the street. Lisa and her team make style dreams happen, in both worlds.

Andre Williamson is an accomplished senior creative producer, renowned for his ability to conceptualize and produce compelling digital content that leaves a lasting impact for esteemed global brands, studios, and networks. His career is a testament to innovation and drive, blending extensive experience across the realms of television, agency, studio, and in-house production.
