ROLE: Camera Operator, The Black Academy Skills Development Program
POSITION SUMMARY: The Camera Operator Trainee will gain experience in the world of media production with hands-on learning and mentorship to develop the skills necessary for a successful career in camera operation and television production. As a trainee, you will shadow seasoned professionals to learn the fundamentals of camera operation and live television broadcasting. This role offers a dynamic learning environment, allowing you to assist in the production of diverse event content for live broadcast. If you have a passion for visual storytelling and are eager to launch your career in the world of media, this is the position for you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assist with Equipment setup and breakdown
- Operate cameras under the guidance of senior operators
- Training in how to capture shot framing and overall visual quality
- Understand safety protocols
- Ensure technical aspects of the cameras, such as focus, exposure, and white balance are properly set and maintained
- Review shot lists
- Learn camera movements, including panning, tilting, zooming and tracking shots to create dynamic and engaging visuals
- Maintain a calm and focused demeanour
- Other duties as required/directed
ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES:
- Program is designed for Canadian citizens or permanent residents who identify as Black
- Participant needs to 19 years old or older
- Participant needs to reside in Ontario
- Previous experience in camera/TVA position
- Previous experience working in a large and complex setting
- Working knowledge of film and television industry
REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Diploma
